Naomi's rough day.

Naomi has had a rough day. First she wasn't allowed to have cake for breakfast (there's leftover birthday cake from my birthday in the kitchen and she saw it and wanted some.) Then she wasn't allowed to have a cookie for snack (because she'll get a piece of birthday cake tonight after supper.)
Naomi, in two year old fashion tried to put a toy and a book into the cat dish again and so the toy broom and the board book were taken away temporarily. This was a majorly distressing punishment even though a favorite toy (that had been removed yesterday because it was thrown into the toilet)was offered instead.
We did have some breakfast and Naomi was wonderful and well behaved.
Then we went to the bank this morning-all four of us had checks to deposit and we had to open Miri's bank account. The office of the man who was helping us had two hats on display which Naomi wasn't allowed to play with and a football on display which she also wasn't allowed to play with. (We did offer several different toys that we'd brought along but none were satisfactory.)
We'd planned on going directly from the bank to the park but it was raining so we decided to go to Target for a quick errand instead. Our Target is being remodeled and so it's a little confusing right now and we split up to look for one of the items we needed...and while we were searching Cayne found a really cool ball that he decided to get for Naomi. Naomi couldn't keep the ball in the cart-she kept throwing it on the floor to watch it bounce and so the ball had to disappear for a while (we did buy it because it was a cool ball, but Naomi wasn't allowed to have it in the store and she thought we were taking it away for good.)
After that we went to one of our favorite parks (Merrill Park for my local friends-nice shady playground) and she had a good time on the swing and the slide (she's still working on the mechanics of sliding-doesn't always pick her feet up enough or let go of the sides.) But it started thundering and we had to cut our park time short, so we went to lunch instead and ordered Naomi one of her favorite foods. The waiter was terrific too.
On the way home Naomi was cranky, but when she was given the opportunity to nap she declined. She's now drawing circles on her MagnaDoodle and identifying letters that I draw.
As for the rest of us...Cayne is about the same as always and debating whether or not to make going in at 5 AM one day a week a more regular thing, Miri is working on rolling over from her back to her belly, I celebrated my 35th birthday on Thursday and am grateful for my family and the stories they can still tell-one of the birthday cards I got from my Mom was a nursery rhyme card-it said on the front "Jack wasn't nimble, Jack wasn't quick. Jack sat on your cake and burned his..." the inside said "corduroys." She wrote "Couldn't resist this one" and it was a reference to the year I turned 8 or 9 and we were meeting my grandparents for dinner at my favorite restaurant-they were supposed to bring the cake. My grandfather set the cake on the passenger seat and went to help my grandmother down the front step and my grandmother sat on the cake. I thought this was hilarious-they were afraid I'd be upset. And it's one of those family tales that will be told time and again and I will enjoy the memory of that night. I can still tell you what my grandparents got me as a birthday gift that year too.
