Several weeks ago, my computer at home began to get very sick. There was a problem with the mouse and a problem with the CD-Rom drive.

Tonight, after Jewish Christmas with [livejournal.com profile] melebeth and cohort, I borrowed another computer. Took it home, hooked it up, plugged in my old mouse...bingo. Same problem. I plugged in the serial mouse she lent me to her machine...no problem. I set my machine back up and plugged in the serial mouse...no problem. Duh. This I could have figured out weeks ago; I had a serial mouse lying around somewhere. I never thought to try the serial mouse. No one suggested it either, but that's okay.

I still haven't figured out the CD ROM problem. I'm going to spend some time on the phone with HP Tech Support one of these days and see what they say...the machine is still under warranty, so I'll back up any essential documents and let someone else fix it if I can't.

If only the semi-dead monitor in my living room were easy to fix...

Don't blame me -- I never even knew what the symptoms were! :-)

Anyway, I'm glad you have a working computer again!

I know you didn't ask, and I didn't mean to suggest that you should have. But I am always happy to try to help out, even if it's outside of my supposed area of expertise. :-)

Anyway, I'm so glad to hear it's mostly working again! Yay!
