Squirming

Today I am squirming because we're working on our presentation for the conference next week and the draft outline is on my desk...

With the heading:

(Name of my co-presenter)-title, etc.
(My name), MSW-job title, etc.

It's that MSW thing that makes me squirm. I feel like I should know more or something to use that title.

And the thing is, on the original draft of the outline, those three letters weren't there. And I didn't notice, let alone pay attention. He noticed and decided to add them in-same thing with my business cards.

If this makes me squirm this much, how bad would it be if I ever got a PhD.

One of the biggest adult revelations I've had is how I don't really, fundamentally, feel any different or more "grown-up" than I ever did. We change so gradually we don't recognize the changes in ourselves, in my opinion.

If you were as educated and qualified as you ever would need to be, you wouldn't keep searching to improve yourself, and to reach to better and higher heights.

Trust in the judgement of people that give you respect, when you can't trust in your own inner knowledge. That doesn't mean not to work on the self-esteem things, but when all else fails, sometimes it helps. :)

Hey, I think you must be me. No wait, I already have a PhD...

Anyway, even without feeling compelled to be all proud and stuff, you can leave the interpretation of what 'MSW' means to other people. Everyone has their own terms of reference.

hmmm. i think i sort-of felt like that with the m.eng. and the m.a. (but that one's fake anyway), but the phd ? nope. no one expected me to get it, what with having a child in the middle of it, and all, so when i did i felt really proud of myself. plus it meant i got to acquire a gender-neutral title ;-)

Ahaaa, that would explain why I was underwhelmed with mine. Everybody was expecting me to get it (with the only exception being me) so it just felt like it was everybody else's, not mine.

Ta for the insight :) and much kudos to you.
