Cayne and I both got a little weepy over the candles last night...I guess it was just the experience of doing it together for the first time that made it very emotional for both of us.

He stopped on the way home and last night I got Grover-the furry stuffed Grover that Macy's is selling as a promotion. And, in order to get the Grover you have to spend $35. Instead of going and buying stuff for himself, he bought me two lipsticks. If you've ever gotten the gist of Cayne's inability to process colors (he sees colors but his brain doesn't send the right signals to tell him what they actually are, and if you put several colors together he sometimes can't tell that there's more than one there-there's a name for it, but I've forgotten what it is) then you'll understand that that's amazing. One silvery gloss that is similar to something he knows I wear, and one sparkly plum colored gloss. And apparently he picked them by himself, without any help from the salesperson. That was extraspecialgood. As was the fact that I got a Chanukah surprise, since my other presents from him I knew about. (He's terrible at surprises...he gets so excited that he wants to share.)

Tonight, [livejournal.com profile] barking_iguana will be here. I did some errands and I should go eat something and do more stuff that needs to get done, like writing out more cards.

First, lunch.

Happy Chanukah to my friends who are celebrating tonight.

I know I'm more excited about it this year than I have been in years... because this year I get to share it for the very first time with Cayne. Presents are wrapped, latkes will be fried, dreidels will be spun.

I think what makes it so special this year is that this is the time when we get to sit down and begin to create our own traditions for the holiday as a family, together.

I'm in love.

Chag Sameach!

Thanksgiving-I mostly got over my cold, and we spent a couple of days at my parents. Arrived a bit after ten pm on Wednesday, hung out, went to bed. Thursday, everyone but Mom was up early...little brother spent part of the day at his girlfriend's house, I made all of dinner but the turkey, which meant that I spent the day in the kitchen while everyone else was raking leaves. Mom does recruit Cayne for work when he's there. Thanksgiving was family-me, Cayne, Mom and Dad, little sister, little brother and his girlfriend, and one of Mom's grad students along with her excedingly icky boyfriend (who she apparently wants to dump, so says the Mom, but can't because she can't afford to-don't ask me, I don't get it.) Friday we met with a photographer and the florist, hung out with the family and went out to dinner after dropping little sister at her ten year high school reunion. We booked the florist-she was fantastic. Saturday we met with a photographer (who will actually be doing the photos for the wedding.) Then Dad and Cayne headed off to some insane sales on mens clothing, while Mom and I went for haircuts. Post haircuts and waxing (eyebrows, sillies) Mom and I ended up home doing a bunch of stuff...Dad and Cayne called and told us they hadn't found anything. Mom and I were bewildered-how could they have gone to all these places and not found anything? Shortly after, they arrived home too, with bags of clothing...two sport jackets, a suit, a couple of shirts, several ties, socks, a new belt, some pants and so on. I nearly cried at how good Cayne looked. Yummy! They headed off to Nick the tailor to get everything altered, Mom and I went to look at wedding invitations. Success all around. Then home, and some family time, and then out to dinner again-Mom didn't feel like cooking. We came home with lots of Mom's sauce, and some other leftovers as well. Cayne and I dropped my sister off at home (she lives in lower Manhattan) and headed back to our house. We fell into bed after greeting the kitties, and slept. Somewhere in the middle of the night, the power went out. Still we managed to make it up in time for our handbell rehersal the next day, although bad weather and parkway messes conspired to keep us away. Turns out there was no rehersal. We got some groceries, and meandered down to a friends place in Aberdeen, where we ate lunch and chatted and retrieved some boxes. Then home to cats and dinner and some really nice time to just the two of us. Yummmmmmm.

So tonight, after I had dealt with the aftermath of yesterday's flood (a few wet boxes in the garage, water in the laundry room and basement, which Cayne took care of) I brought some of Cayne's things upstairs. A VCR, some stuffies and whatnot. Tonight, we heard growling from one of the cats. We checked things out, couldn't find anything, and thought they were just being bratty. Then we heard Beta again, his hackles were up and he was very upset about something. We realized from where he was sitting that he was upset at something in the living room. The only thing that had changed was the appearance of Cayne's Pikathulu. (Imagine if you will, and I'll try and post a photo at some point) a stuffed Pikachu, with tentacles hanging from his face.) Beta could only see the back of the toy, and it was sitting very high up on a shelf. He's still a bit nervous.

We've got no heat right now. I think we're going to go figure out how to go and stay warm now.

I need to go get our bags packed for the weekend-it's really odd that Cayne took me up on my offer to pack his stuff for the weekend (or so I think.) But then, perhaps not, because he knows I'll put in clothes that match and stuff.

We're going out to my parents tonight, and will be there for a couple of days, for Thanksgiving and some wedding stuff. I can't imagine that it will be much different than usual. My sister will complain and be miserable because she refuses to take anything for her allergies, for the cats. My Dad will yell at the football games on tv, and drink, and probably fall asleep. Mom and I, and probably my sister will cook too much food, and my brother will disappear most of the day, but show up for some part of dinner, potentially with his girlfriend. Cayne will be there, and find things to do and stuff. I'm not sure how that will work.

Then wedding stuff this weekend-florist and photographers and stuff like that. If I do the ten holiday wishes meme (probably will next week) I think one of them would be to have the wedding plans finished.

I should go get the packing done.
