I don't recall if the article said it, but he's the third most powerful Republican in the Senate...or way up there somewhere. And there have been some calls for his resignation.

Many years ago, he visited my [then] high school; I didn't see him in person, but he made a comment — which was printed in an article in the school paper — that he considered same-sex marriage tantamount to marrying a four-year-old, or a dog. He is, I think, the only politician I've ever voted against.
