I've had this overwhelming twinge of homesickness hanging around for weeks. It's possible that it has something to do with the fact that I haven't visited my parents in nearly six months, but I'm not sure it's that at all. (I did see them a couple of months ago though.)

But it's all these little things...it's missing the spring and summer evenings watching the GLBT league softball games on the waterfront, and hanging around in the diner after the game. I need someone who will drive me out to Waldorf to get water ices at Rita's. The lilacs that [livejournal.com profile] rdhdsnippet's grandmother sent me home with. I miss grilling, I miss fresh fish. I miss Carvel thick shakes and sherbert fizzies. I miss Friendly's-not for the food but the ice cream sundaes. I even miss the ice cream cones in the middle of the night with my Mom at the 24 hour Baskin Robbins. I miss sitting by the harbor at night. I miss concerts at the beach-watching bands while looking at the sunset over the water. I miss the carnivals, and playing skee ball for hours in the midway at Adventureland. I miss how bright and green everything looks, marked by colors and flowers...and knowing when things really were about to change seasons, all the subtle things that happen, not just school opening again.

The night doesn't wrap around me the same way it did up there-the silence broken by crickets and the occasional cat or dog. It doesn't smell as good, or feel the same.

Wow. Thank you for that.
You sparked a bit of homesickness in me as well. Not for home, exactly, but all the things that remind of me home. My parents moved when I was a sophomore in college, so "home" is really our old home, where I grew up. Summers were wonderful, hazy, lazy, lackadaiscal affairs.

As much as I love good weather, I don't think I could live away from the Northeast. I love the way the seasons express themselves there. I like it here in Nova, but as I get older I miss it up north. I wouldnt be surprised if I moved there in a few years.
