"You Shot His Balls Off!"

So, in case you don't know, I'm taking a course with the Alexandria Police Department. Tonight's session involved a trip to the police firing range, and using one of their training simulators to play with shoot/don't shoot scenarios. You could use a combination of verbal commands, lethal force or other methods like OC spray to deal with a subject. My first scenario involved investigating a break in in progress. The suspect did what I wanted him to do-put the stuff in his hands down. The second scenario involved a break in at a house...and a man with an axe. And apparently my judgement was good, according to the officer running the training. Unfortunatly, of the two times I had to deal with that scenario, I fired five shots each time, for a total of ten shots. Six hit, four missed. But of those six...once in each time I ran through this scenario, I managed to hit the guy in the groin. Which resulted in an officer commenting "You shot his balls off."

Apparently I shouldn't be allowed near a gun.

(But here's the thing...I grew up in a place where guns weren't part of my growing up experience...I didn't know anyone who owned a gun until I moved down here, and met people for whom guns had been a part of their growing up experience. I'd enjoy going target shooting I think, once in a while, if I had people to go with, but I've no desire to purchase or own a gun. But target shooting, I'd do.)

Pink Pistols They meet in Vienna every couple weeks. The NOVA chapter is more multicoloured than Pink, but a pretty cool group of people in my opinion.

And if you let them know ahead of time someone can bring extra weapons to the range.
