I just removed myself from the [livejournal.com profile] cumswallowers community. This is not a community I chose to join; I came home and it was on my friends list. And I don't want it there. For a lot of reasons.

My other random thoughts for tonight are about music...

1. Why does the new Liz Phair song sound like Avril Lavigne? If I wanted to listen to Avril Lavigne, I would. Has anyone heard the rest of the album? Is it all that way or what?

2. The Ataris covered Don Henley's "Boys of Summer." That song sort of defines a certain moment in my life, and it's sort of weird to hear it covered...it doesn't seem like that long ago that I'm talking about. But there's this line in the original song..."I saw a Deadhead sticker on a cadillac," and in the cover they've changed Deadhead to Black Flag. I like Black Flag, don't get me wrong, but 1. I've never seen their sticker on a Cadillac and 2. has it been so long since Jerry Garcia died that people don't know what Deadhead means anymore?

I heard that Ataris cover myself, and I thought it was odd to hear the line changed, but it also seemed like an even more noteworthy thing. After all, Cadillac and Black Flag are even further apart than Cadillac is from the Grateful Dead... or that's how it seems to me. I always thought the point of the line was to emphasize just ho strange and unusual the sighting actually was, in a "strange portents" kind of way.

(BTW, it looks like you've got a broken "close italics" tag in your post.)

Now I'm imagining Henry Rollins and Don Henley sitting on the couch on the Tonight Show, trying to make idle conversation, and totally failing. :)

I'm currently available, yes... shall we do the fife-and-drum thing, then? Were there any other folks who wanted to get in on this?

I read a review of the Liz Phair album recently, which called it disappointing and perplexing for exactly that reason -- she's tried too hard to sound like a mainstream pop star, and sacrificed almost everything that made her interesting in the first place. Sad, really.

The New York Times posted a review of Liz's new CD and titled it "Liz Phair's exile in Avril-ville". If you use Google groups and search in "fa.music.ecto" for "liz phair review" it should turn up.

That song sort of defines a certain moment in my life, and it's sort of weird to hear it covered...

If you think that's weird, you should hear the DJ Sammy version. *twitch* *twitch*
