Left Late, no biggie...
Stopped at a Tastee Freeze in Chilhowie VA.
Hours through VA-excigted when we finally reached Bristol (the border between Va and TN.)
Called home from TN. Welcome Center. Also took picture of Giant Guitar which I'll post a link to later.
Mom says "Just be sure you keep Scott's persuasion quiet=you never know what kind of crazy people you'll meet."
(For the record, we're in a black VW Jetta which includes a little rainbow thingy on the antennae, and an HRC sticker.)
Stopped at some tiny gas station in Hamblin TN. Got soda in glass bottles (made with real sugar, yay!) and a vanilla Moon Pie (yay!) They sell pizza there-the reverse of what I'm used to. They put EVERYTHING on it, and expect you to tell them what you don't want. No, we didn't stop and eat there. Scott was getting all excited about the soda in glass bottles, and commented about how where he's from you can't find them. The response from the guy behind the counter, upon hearing that Scott was from Boston: "Yeah, well, we can't get a decent brisket around here."
Stopped in Knoxville for dinner. Tried to drive all the way to Nashville but too tired. Stopped in Cookeville TN, at a hotel which offered free high speed internet access in the rooms.
Read about half of the first book in the "Big Stone Gap" trilogy. Must get the other two, it's incredible.
Time for showers and a quick breakfast and back on the road. The next planned adventure is Graceland.

Date: 2003-08-26 05:45 am (UTC)That was about where I decided I had to stop on my drive to Memphis too. Have fun at Graceland, and turn your cheese-tolerance shields way up. ;)

Date: 2003-08-26 10:40 pm (UTC)Scott will be able to find sodas in glass bottles in LA but you just have know where to look. On the other hand, a decent pastrami sandwich can't be found. If they could just transport a good NY deli here. The people here are just too health conscious. LOL
