Hate when I can't find consistent information on what I want.

Need to know how long HCV survives outside the body. Information from websearches, brochures and books inconsistent.

Grr.

I did a quick CDC, NIDDK, Medscape and MEDLINE searches and didn't come up with anything useful.

Did you try these sites:

Drats!

Though comprehensive, the NIH disease management factsheet didn't say ( http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/chronichepc/index.htm ). The CDC FAQ is likewise unhelpful ( http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/c/faq.htm#1b ). Nor does the CDC CEU professional training, though I do like the info that it gives ( http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/c_training/edu/1/default.htm ).

From "Transmission Modes": In a single study that evaluated risk factors for infection, a history of unintentional needle-stick injury was the only occupational risk factor independently associated with HCV infection.

I came across this article Sexual Activity as a Risk Factor for Hepatitis C - (12/05/03) at www.natap.org that may be of interest. It doesn't answer your original question but is informative.
