HIV Sesame

I'm impressed with the decision of Sesame Workshop to introduce an HIV+ Muppet on Takalani Sesame, the Sesame Street show in South Africa.

Sesame Street, in the US has often been a source of educating children about fears, and diversity, at the same time about imagination and hopes. It's not perfect, but then, what is?

I applaud the Sesame educators for this decision. I'd love to get a tape of the first episode when it airs...sometime in September.

NPR had a story about it last week on Morning Edition, Reuters had a piece and CNN had a story as well. I have the CNN url somewhere, but it expires in about ten days; I'm sure you could find it on their website with a bit of searching, but I'll try and post it later when I'm at work.

I was also really impressed at that. Please give me a shout if you need help getting hold of a tape of the episode. (It'll probably only be avilable as PAL though -- but that can be sorted).

I will do that. My concern was also formatting; I can't play PAL tapes over here...but we're clever people; we could figure something out.

Now if only I can remember in September.

Sorting can happen if you send the tape via me - Richard can do PAL to NTSC conversion at work (he works for a post-production company). He could probably even burn it to a DVD if you wanted, though that would cost money as blank DVDs aren't cheap.

Wow! That's what I call networking.

If I'm going to use it or watch it at work, VHS is better; we have a vcr at work, but not a dvd player.
