The Mom has provided Amazongiftcertificateness for wedding planning books/info.

I'm hunting for something about Jewish weddings, and I'm not sure what else. But I do appreciate that the Mom has provided that.

Not in the Jewish area, but in the regular "wedding" area, I probably still have a couple books... and I think my mom might too... I'll ask her. No need to waste your giftcertificateness on books you already have access to. The 'Bridal Bargain' book as I recall it was named, was the best one I bought... it's kind of tall and about half-width. I think Mom and I both have a copy.

And your local library will most likely have a Wedding section. I saved many dollars by taking out a whole slew of books and culling the best ideas for me.

Two books to recommend...

First is by Anita Diamant. "The New Jewish Wedding, Revised" Looks at all sorts of traditions that you may or may not want to incorporate into your wedding.

The second is "Bridal Bargains: Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget" by Fields and Fields. Filled with great ideas. I would mail you it, but its currently on loan to another friend.

Straight up. My folks' rabbi said she would marry us so long as we were going to raise the kidlets Jewish. I think having a priest there would have frightened half of my family away.. ;)

I have the Diamant book for you if you would like, as well as "The Bride and Groom Handbook" This is one of 4 'handbooks' one for each lifecycle event written for the Conservative movement. Stephen is training in Rosslyn tomorrow. I will send it in to him. call him or send email and arrange to hook up if possible.

Well. I thought my comment went through, but I guess not.

I've got the most recent Bridal Bargains which has GREAT questions for interviewing vendors, etc and a couple of Martha Stewart: Weddings which are good for laughing at because things are SO over the top. However, there are some pretty cake and flower ideas in there...

I don't have anything on Jewish weddings, of course, but help me remember to pass off the books I do have when I see you next. I'm certainly not going to be using them again in the forseeable future!

I really liked The Knot stuff - both the website, http://www.theknot.com and the books.

Nadeera and her TheKnot.com addiction are dangerous! I can't tell you how many hours I've spent exploring that site.

Not too bad. I think the only emails I've gotten were because I'd signed up for "free evaluations" of beauty products, hair styles or vacation ideas.

A couple of things that I found both useful and stress-inducing (at the same time even!) were the checklists and countdown to the date. IGNORE THE CHECKLISTS UNLESS YOU WANT TO GIVE YOURSELF CONTINUAL PANIC ATTACKS. I actually ripped the checklists out of a couple of magazines so I wouldn't have to look at them because I kept hyperventilating when I realized how much I hadn't done yet.

Although, now that I think about it, those might be on WeddingChannel.com. Yeah, I think it is WeddingChannel since that's where I go to update my wedding website and Macy*s registry.

We stayed at the Luxor at the end of our honeymoon. It was fabulous; we'd definitely stay there again.

The Bellagio, on the other hand, was annoying in a variety of ways.

I can't recommend highly enough: How to have the wedding you want, and not the one everyone else wants you to have (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0425145786/qid=1077254124//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/104-2000438-8452714?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), by Danielle Claro. This book saved my life when I was really freaked out about the idea of all of the traditional feminine baggage that comes with being a "bride," of all the weird things to be.

It's got neat ideas about different ways people have done their weddings, and it's hugely permissive when it comes to not filling in all the things Brides magazine says you need to have. One nice feature: she interviewed a lot of people after their weddings, and asked what they would've changed if they could have. It's a simple enough idea, but I didn't see any other book about wedding planning that did it.

It's also got good things about managing emotions around wedding issues. Did I mention that I loved and needed this book?
