Apr. 20th, 2004 02:21 pmBridal Hell is beginning its descent into my apartment. Little sister subscribed all of us (me, Mom, herself) to Modern Bride and Brides magazines. They're glorified collections of advertisements, mostly. Glossy pages of dresses that make me say "Ick, I can't wear that." (Seems that the only thing most manufacturers are making these days are dresses without sleeves, or strapless dresses. I want sleeves. I actually want long or 3/4 length sleeves.) Pages of fancy shoes (I want white glittery doc martens with silver laces. This gave my Mom pause. And palipitations.)
I just want this to be fun. If I'm going to concede and have something that vaguely resembles the kind of wedding my mother wants (and she's quite amenable to most things-and has offered to get us an Elvis impersonator if we want) I will not let the fun be sucked out of it. It's a party and it will be something I like.
But it's not all conflict; she suggested using something from Harry Potter for the processional music, and a string quartet playing arrangements of "rock music." Rock music is my Mom's description of anything she isn't familiar with the genre of that is clearly not identifiable as rap. Which would mean she'd probably lump Metallica and Cowboy Junkies into the same heading.
Must buy more icons. Also need a wedding icon. Probably a wedding hell icon too... Anyone?

Thinking outside the box

Date: 2004-04-20 11:07 pm (UTC)Not too much cleavage, long or 3/4 length not too sheer sleeves (too sheer would mean no detail/decoration) and not tight sleeves either. Nothing empire waisted (princess, ballgown, natural, something like that) with some fullness to the skirt. No train, or one that's removable and that the dress looks okay without. Not too long-ankle length, or maybe tea length would probably be ideal. Preferrably not white-ivory, or something.
How's that for a start?

Cowboy Junkies! What did I do with my CD of them?

[Sorry for the duplicate; the first posting ate random words in my response.]
