May. 6th, 2004 01:45 pmI am in need of birthday foo, especially since my departure from here is sort of iminent. I'm just feeling unmotivated to plan something. I'll figure it out.
Mom is unsympathetically amused about our iminent arrival in New York tomorrow. I'm sure she's not nearly as stressed as I am about it.
I'm curious as to what the bedroom arrangements will be. My Mom has always had very strict rules about my sister and I having boys in the house (don't ask about girls please...we never really did get that one straightened out.) No boys upstairs, period, no questions asked. If you had a boy over, you stayed outside, or downstairs, or in the basement. And the door stayed open. No discussion. When there were boys at the house overnight, the rule was separate bedrooms. Usually boys downstairs in the guest room, and you, upstairs in your own bedroom. And I've always (mostly...I have done my share of making out/sneaking around) respected the rules about it. But I'm wondering, now that we've gotten engaged, what's going to happen. Is it going to be separate bedrooms til we get married? My childhood bedroom is too small for anything larger than a twin bed. What then?
It's all curious.

Date: 2004-05-06 06:57 pm (UTC)When my fiance wanted to visit my parents in China to ask for my father's approval (my hand in marriage), my father still said: "no boys are to stay in our house!" Sheesh. So at least your fiance gets to sleep over-- mine still isn't allowed to.

Date: 2004-05-06 07:02 pm (UTC)Plus the thought of not sleeping in my own bedroom, the one that's been mine since birth is kind of freaky. I've done it for short periods of time, when I've been sick and whatnot, but still...it's my room, it's always been my room.
It's a strange feeling, letting go that way.
