dindin talked about the Washington Summer Exodus in her journal. And she's right. I started to see the first parts of it today. Twenty minutes home from Alexandria at 5 PM. Traffic moving at speed on the Beltway at 4 or 4:30 PM. The summer exodus...the government basically slows to a crawl, lobbyists have little to do, staffers wander off...it gets much quieter.

Speaking of the Beltway...it was the day for stuff on the road. On the Beltway, it was a five gallon bucket. On Route 1, it was a large bag of trash. Swerved and missed both times, TYVM. I realized how nice it was to have a cell phone, cause I could call the state police on the Beltway without having to stop, hunt up a payphone, and so on.

Got birthday present from Mom-a nice surprise, considering I didn't expect anything. It's a USB flash drive. Neat little toy. Also got a couple of cards, and $25.

After stopping to order the subs for tomorrow evening's meeting, I decided to run into the Hallmark by the Subway I was at. Found some cute stuff-save the date magnets, and announcement type things to order and send out. Course this will be an undertaking-agreeing on the wording, and all that. Ah well, it's the first of what I'm sure will be many disagreements.

I have to work til about 8 tomorrow night. If anyone wants to grab a drink in Alexandria/Arlington around 8:30 or 9, let me know. I'd love to duck out and do a little actual birthday celebrating on the real day. That said, I'm mindful of the fact that it is indeed a school night, and expect to need actual sleep.

Birthday Foo=birthday gathering. I don't really have enough room to host something at my place, so I want to get friends who feel like it together to go have some dinner and hang out.
