I think it's kind of this warm brown caramel or camel color. But I can't imagine describing soda as camel colored.

Orange cream...that's another story.

But when you say you want a coke, what kind of coke do you want?

I grew up with that particular usage, too. It's considered "southern," though I'm a 5th gen Californian. When I was a kid, my favorite kind of coke was root beer, followed by Canada Dry ginger ale.
