The Mother's Day that recently passed, my MIL sent me a greeting card. That in itself was nice, but inside she wrote a few personal comments. One was, "I hope when Sarah grows up, she appreciates you as much as I do." I bawled like a baby when I read it! I have more, but no time, so I'll post again later.

My mother has always loved Chris since the first time she met her; Chris's coming out as lesbian changed that not at all (if only I could say the same for her own mothers...) When I explained that Chris wanted to keep my surname after we got divorced because she is so fond of my family and didn't want to feel she was getting entirely cut off from them, my mother said, "Of *course* she's going to stay part of the family if she wants to!" :*-)
