I cleaned out the trunk of my car today...this means when I drive over to aquariumgirl's house tonight, I'm sure the things that I did keep in there (a bag of stuff that needs to go back to the office, a bottle of antifreeze and a bottle of windshield wiper fluid) will undoubtedly rattle around a whole lot when I do go over. I suppose I'll get a milk crate or something to keep them in so they don't thump everywhere.

It's time, I suppose to start contemplating truck rentals too. I was hoping to be able to get someone else to move the furniture for us, but I think it's just not going to be feasible. Such is life. I hope I've got enough moving karma built up that people will be able/willing to help us on both ends. I'll start taking boxes up next weekend, too, which should help in the end. Back to the original premise of this paragraph...anyone have any suggestions or horror stories about truck rentals other than u-haul? I'm not sure who we'll rent from, I'm hoping that we can avoid the one way truck mess by renting in NJ and returning it in NJ, but I don't know.

I've got to figure out and give notice here-they want 30 days. I've got to figure out who is getting the clothes I'm getting rid of...I should probably sort them and send some to Dress for Success, and the rest to whoever else. And figure out who is getting canned goods from the pantry-there's enough stuff that I don't want to move all of it. It's funny...I shop and think "Do I need this, will I use it before I move, how much of this item that I know I do need do I really need?"

Be sure to check mileage requirements if you do a rent in NJ and return to NJ. Its probably still cheaper but you might want to check it out.

When I moved from VA to WI, we rented a Penske I think. (Whatever the yellow truck is) and they seemed ok; however, they did move the office right as I tried to return it so it was kind of confusing for me.

That would be the determining factor-is there enough mileage to do a rent/return in NJ, or does it make more sense to pay the one way rental fee. We'll see.

Date is still TBD...some time in mid to late October.

I suspect the one way is more cost effective. Even if it isn't, it might be worth the extra cost to avoid the extra hassles. I should be available for moving from. Possibly moving to even (if it's all on the weekend). No definitive promises until I have a definitive date.

walmart makes great boxes with snap tops that i use for trunk stuffs.

and i liked uhaul, except for the not guaranteed deal. you'll likely go over mileage, though. can offer more of my experience if you wish.

When we moved OK->OH, we used Penske. New truck, $200 less than U-haul, and the people were super nice. Our one-way trip was unlimited miles. I highly, highly recommend them.
