While cooking tonight, I managed to spill a large amount of flour on my kitchen counter. I was thinking about grabbing the dustbuster to clean it up, but decided not to (I had managed to get the egg and flour both on the same hand, though I'm not sure how.) So I'm wondering what your favorite method of cleaning up spilled flour is so you don't end up with papier machie, nor do you get that kind of lumpy goo mess.

Also, has anyone seen a carpet rake lately? I'm desperate for one, and checked out both Bed Bath and Beyond's website, and Linens and Things website and didn't see any. I'm going to check out the actual stores later this week, but if anyone's been to a major retailer (Target, BBB, LNT, etc) and seen them, would you let me know?

Thanks.

barely damp towel/cloth. (like the sort used to dry dishes.) it'll spread over the area of the spill and you can squish most of it in.

To get it off the stand mixer and the area around it, I usually whack-dust with a dry towel, or I use the soft brush that came with the dustpan, and sweep it onto the counter, then off into the dustpan.

If it's a smooth counter, I usually just grab a wooden chopstick (since those tend to be handy for us) and scrape it into a pile and off into my hand. Kind of like those table scrapers that waiters use.

For flour on the counter, I use a flat, flexible scraper to push most of it off the counter onto a paper towel or directly into the trash can. That gets up enough that normal cleaning measures work fine.

For flour on my mixer, I use a damp sponge cloth.

I bought my carpet rake from professional carpet cleaners, years ago. Call around; see who might sell you one.

I haven't seen a carpet rake in a store, but was just flipping through a catalog and saw one!
