Something random that I realized I missed about New York today...

I miss the neighborhood pizza places. I've got a few non-chain pizza places around here, but mostly what I can get is Pizza Hut, Pizza Boli's, Papa John's and such.

But what I really wanted today, was the neighborhood kind of place, where I could duck in, get two slices and a soda, and go.

Even if the pizza is less than ideal.

ok, now im hungry

I miss that too. There was this place I'd go every week(sometimes more than once) on the upper west side between 91st and 95th I think. It's been a while and I cannot even think of the name of the place, but I can damn sure taste the pizza still.

I think the cool thing about NY pizza is that it tastes different each time you go. Unlike the major chains. Ugh!

Now I'm longing for ny pizza.

We have that on occasion in Rochester... Park Ave has a few places (including Chester Cab), and there's Pontillo's, which has numerous locations which serve pizza-by-the-slice. I had two slices from there today, actually.

Even Des Moines has/had one good pizza-by-the-slice-'til-4am place... -rt

Oddly, only pizza I've ever had in Toronto (nearest.real.city) was Pizza Hut... I should pizzacrawl up there sometime. -rt

New York pizza is easily the best. It was one of the only things I remember liking about visiting my grandparents in Brooklyn. There was this little place over on Sheepshead Bay (the actual road, not the neighborhood) called Del Mar's that had the most wonderful pizza I've ever had in my life. I'd probably consider going back just for that pizza.

Of course not! I've just been way too busy. And it doesn't look to be getting much better anytime soon. Classes start tomorrow. :)

If you're in Brooklyn, go up and down either 5th Ave (between 69th and 86th), 3rd Ave, or Ft. Hamilton Pkwy. That's where all my old pizza haunts used to be. It's been a few years, but I'm sure at least A FEW of them are still there. Hometown Pizza is a NY tradition. Better than anyplace else on earth.

And if you're down in that area, stop by Cangianos on 3rd. Ave. and Ovington (70th St.). That place has that BEST potato/mac salad on this planet, and their bread isn't too shabby, either. ;)

Now I'm homesick!

oh yes, the chinese food down there is amazing as well. Now I'm craving some good city food. Maybe I'll shoot down Labour Day weekend or something.

Where do you call home when you're not venturing back to NYC? I really should try to go down there soon, at least before the year ends, as I'm long overdue for a visit.
