A reasonably productive Saturday

Got up, made a grocery list, sent Cayne to the store while I ate breakfast, cleaned bathrooms and the coffee table. Then we went out and got new cell phones (see previous post) bought a new grill (ours fell apart last week, and we use it a lot, especially in the summer) and some clothes for Cayne. We stopped on the way home at Brustersfor ice cream, because it was raining-you get a second scoop free in the rain, though I like the one in our neighborhood because they'll give me half a scoop of one flavor and half a scoop of another, so I get two flavors in a single scoop. (I had key lime and vanilla. It was delicious.) Came home, made supper, did some DDR and now I'm hanging out on the couch programming my new phone, thinking about downloading ringtones and games, and thinking about going to bed. Tomorrow should be a much less busy day. I have a book of coupons for Joann's, plus we need cat litter, I have a dress to return, and I need to go to Costco. I might do that during the week though when the stores are less crowded-the fleece I should still be there, and I can pick up a few other things while my coupons are good. Now that school is done for a few weeks, I have more time...though I need to sort out what I want to take in the fall, and we need to figure out what Cayne's going to need to take, too.

You both are going to school? Wow, that must be hectic.

I've coerced my boy into taking one class with me this semester, but with us moving in about two weeks, then school starting right after, I'm starting to feel like things are squished up time-wise.

I took two classes over the summer. I'll probably take two more in the fall, and he'll take two or three, depending on what he decides to take. It may get a little crazy, but I think we're going to try and schedule one class so we're taking different classes at the same time, and he'll probably try and take one online, which makes it easier to work around Life. We don't take the same classes though, which helps, though he may take a class that I just took with the same professor, because I really liked the professor.

We are taking a Human Sexualities class together. lol I took it two semesters ago to fulfill some stupid asinine credit that pertains to my major in no way at all, and made friends with the professor. It was an awesome class, and really was more about debate on currently touchy subjects in society and taboos then learning about Human Sexuality (which, come to find out frighteningly enough - not many people know too much about). My boy has never been to college, and hated HS, so I wanted him to see that it was different. He's an intelligent man, and I think that he would benefit from being in a dynamic group setting with his peers in debate. Hopefully he will enjoy it.

Hopefully between work and school you two will still find time to have some life together! It's had when bother people are busy, but it sounds like you guys have got things under control. Lucky you. :)

Cayne finished high school, and got most of the way through his degree in computer science before he wrecked his wrists during a co-op, and had to take quite a bit of time off to recuperate. Unfortunately, he didn't go back after that, and so, he's degree-less. A comp sci degree would be a waste of time for him at this point, so we've found a couple of alternative possibilities for him, that hopefully won't drive him to batty with humanities classes and be vaguely practical since work will pay for his education. He's fine without a degree, but it's the sort of thing where there are times when not having the piece of paper will hinder his career progress, and so, he basically needs to get his ticket punched. I, on the other hand, have two degrees and no idea what I want to do with my life, since what I really want to be doing isn't feasible right now.

We've taken a couple of French classes together (he's fluent, having gone to French Immersion schools growing up, I'm not, but I get by,) to refresh things. We speak Frenglish at home some of the time-it's amusing.

We do really work hard to take time to do things together-I don't think I'd want to have it any other way.

I've switched around my schooling a bunch too, and as such, have a great academic record, but no resume to be proud of. :P I've finally settled on something that I actually want to do though, and something that is practical. Maybe by the time I'm 30 I'll have started my actual career. :P

It's good that both of you realize that relationships don't just fall into place and that they take work to keep rolling. :)

It's not perfect, but we do love each other. And we take time to take care of ourselves and that makes us better able to take care of each other. But you're right-we need to care for our relationship like any other living, breathing creature. I've said in the past that Widget and Gizmo (two of our cats) were our wedding present to each other-we adopted them six days after we got married, but they're a living, breathing, meowing reminder of our relationship, and how it needs to be cared for.

Fascinating about the French bit; I'm a language junkie myself but have lost fluency in the one I studied most (Spanish) through lack of use. I've long thought about trying to 'train' a pet only in a foreign language, though. :)

What are your degrees and subject areas in?

I've lost much of my German because I don't use it, but for rare occasions with [Bad username or site: aquariumgirl. @ livejournal.com] French was probably my second best, but I have occasions to use it now, so it gets pulled out. If/when we have children, we'll likely speak both French and English at home though.

My undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Information Transfer-it's a degree heavily based on library science, with a strong dose of information science and a slightly smaller dose of computer science. I also have a minor in mass media/communication. My graduate degree is a masters in social work, with a concentration in macropractice and a certificate in student-community development.

If I were to be in a different location closer to a school where I could do it, I'd be working towards a phd in public health. Unfortunately, the nearest place to do it is two and a half hours away and it's just not a resonable commute to do that right now.
