We're home. We were discharged today at about 3 PM, under protestations from the doctor.

Baby Nacho is having some trouble regulating her blood sugar, and under protestations, the doctor (not our doctor) agreed to release us today under rather strict conditions...that she's fed every two hours, that we monitor her blood sugar at home and keep it at the level she demands is correct (which may or may not be appropriate for breastfed infants before mother's milk comes in) and that if the level drops, we supplement via SNS-fortunately, I've found some donor milk-this should only be a few days until my milk actually comes in but if you know anyone in Central Florida (within about two hours of Orlando) who could spare milk, we'd appreciate it. We are willing to pay for it. Just hope that my milk actually comes in.

Anyway, we're on a really wild eat-sleep-blood glucose schedule right now, but I wanted to let people know we were home. One of us will get some pictures together either via email to someone else, or online. I need to find the diaper bag, eat something, and then, in 25 minutes, feed the baby again.

I am glad you are home. I wish you the best of luck with the milk. I recommend thistledown and fenugreek in combination. But for them to help you have to take ALOT. I would be glad to offer any help or commiseration you want. Donor milk is a tremendous blessing.

As I'm sure you already know, the best way to get milk in is to let the babe spend as much time at your breast as possible. I know everyone wants to cuddle and snuggle, but they can do that as soon as you start to gush. :) (And if it doesn't happen, there are many more things you can do; no worries yet.)

And remember that YOU need to take it easy. Get up to go potty and shower. Otherwise chill with Naomi in a comfy chair or in bed; drink, eat, and rest!

I'm so happy to hear that you're home, and that you've found some donor milk. I've had quite a few thoughts over the last 12 hours about whether there was any reasonable way for me to get some of my milk down to you.

*hugs*

Yeah, I looked at the cost of that, and it didn't seem to me that it fell into the category of "reasonable" -- this was when I was thinking I'd need to use FedEx same day, which is wicked expensive.

Actually, with dry ice this time of year, you can probably even do two day/ground with no problem if you layer it with newspaper in a Styrofoam cooler. However, that does defeat the purpose of Baby Nacho needing it now.

I'm flying into Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday afternoon for other purposes and would happily ferry, but I won't have any transportation really and I have no earthly idea how close they are. If it's useful though, let me know.

I'm sure your milk will come in. It does do that sooner rather than later. :)

I'm sorry Naomi is having a difficult time. When Julianne was born, she was discharged on the condition we keep her near a heater at all times since her body temperature seemed to plunge — we compensated as well by constantly taking her temperature.

My thoughts are with you. I'm glad you're home and you're both doing well, all things considered.

Congratulations. :)
