In other news, the search for a preschool for Naomi is really driving me crazy.

Right there with ya. We found out that Hootie's school might not have enough spaces for all the kids who want to be in preschool there next year. And that's just from the families already in the school, not even adding new families. So we're looking at other options in case we don't get offered a spot. It's enough to drive anyone quietly mad...

Naomi isn't in school right now, so I don't have a spot for her anywhere. Ideally we'd like to send her to the JCC preschool, but JCC doesn't have VPK-only paid pre-k, and it's outrageous...which means I'd have her at the JCC for a year, somewhere else for pre-K and then if we don't homeschool, she'd potentially be somewhere else for kindergarten. That's crazy. It also means that despite being close to county lines, it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to look at preschools in the next county, because we'd have to move her back into our county in order to not pay for VPK.

We just bought ourselves justaddhippopotamus.com the other day (which is where we're hosting the Sheenomatic at the moment.) We did discuss buying the domain, but decided we didn't need it right now.

And to answer your other question-we're in Florida, not California, but yes, pre-K is paid for by the state here-they have to be 4 by September 1 of the year that they start (so Naomi will go in 2012, but Miriam won't go until 2014, assuming the program is still funded then. If it's the state program, it's VPK (Voluntary Pre-K)-it's an optional program, and hopefully the funding will be maintained for the next few years. It saves us paying out of pocket for a second year of nursery school.
