Each of these terrible tragedies-Newtown, Boston, Aurora Colorado, etc. each of them leave me shaken as a human, as a citizen, as a social worker. But perhaps most of all, as a parent.
As a parent,I wonder each time something like this happens, "Will this be the time I have to answer, 'Why, Mommy? Why does someone do something like that? Why do they hurt people?" I wonder what the relevant question will be. I wonder how I will be able to answer the questions honestly, without scaring them, with the right information-letting them know that I will do everything in my power to keep them safe and protected, but that the world really can be a big, scary place to navigate, and that we have each other to help.
