"Hey (Geminigirl)....you know more about how to explain this stuff to kids than I do. How can I explain what an orgasm is to my sister?"

(The question came from a 17 year old peer educator who wanted to tell this to her 13 year old sister. And no, I'm not disclosing my answer...how would you answer it?)

Yeah, I know masturbation counts as sex, but I suspect 13 year olds might not see it that way, which is why I separated it out.

I'm odd, I think. My boundary around what constitutes "sex" is so nebulous that I'm sure there are people who think they haven't had sex with me when I'm equally sure I've had sex with them. Yeah. Sometimes it is for me, sometimes it isn't. Let the OR stand, then.

I might consider mutual masturbation sex, but if I'm in my own bedroom getting off, it's not sex. In fact, I'm probably not going to have an orgasm, nor am I looking for one.

Defining sex is just weird.

I really guess it depends on perspective. I consider it sex, with myself, at least when done alone. And someone can help you with it, but then it goes into another category, I'm sure. (Mutual masturbation would definitely count as sex, or at least for a larger group of people.)

I live in the state of Virginia, which, while far from the most conservative state, prohibits me from talking about abortion, homosexuality and masturbation in public school settings. (Many of my sites are not schools, which means I'm not hugely affected by this rule, but I am to a degree, and other people I work with are affected quite a bit more.)

So orgasm is probably up there with that-no books allowed.

Wow. I'm not sure if I should say that J. is good at what he does, or you're lucky...but if your orgams come from God...maybe it's just that you're lucky.
