Oh my, how tasty.

(Frozen margaritas with frozen blackberries substituted for part of the ice. And my dear husband makes the drinks kind of strong.)

5 cups of ice cubes, measured by the markings on the side of the blender, about half a bag of frozen blackberries-I think it's a 12 oz bag, it might be a 16 oz bag, 4 parts of tequilla (Cayne says he uses the large end of a jigger and pony") 12 parts margarita mix (Same size measure as you used for the tequilla) and blend. We make our margaritas on the slushy side, so that you eat the first few bites with a spoon, so you may want to adjust the ice/fruit proportions if you like less slushy drinks.

We get about four good sized margaritas.

Last time, we used frozen raspberries, but the blackberries are just sexier. And the color is gorgeous.

I like mine on the rocks, but I'd probably blend up the blackberries and stuff (maybe limes, they're easier to get here, making one without mix is relatively easy here in Freshproduceland), then toss in some ice.

Nigella Lawson freezes watermelon cubes and replaces ice with those.

Margaritas tend to be a spontaneous decision, so I don't always have limes in the house to make them fresh. Especially the day before grocery day. :) When we plan ahead, we do without the mix. The one thing that you could do on the rocks that doesn't happen with the frozen ones is strain out the seeds.

Though these start out at slightly thinner than an italian ice/water ice-vaguely like a Slurpee. Good for hot weather sipping, and they melt quickly.

On a similar mixed drink idea my ex-gf used to make the most absolutely fabulous drinks...one of which was mixing a tripple shot of Blackberry vodka with 6oz of sprite/7up, then pour over crushed ice. It was soo good...hmmm...thinking of going to the ABC monday now :)

When we come back to New England next fall, we'll (again) visit Nashoba Winery, but this time I'm getting the apple vodka (not flavored with, but made from apples) then coming back home to get danged fancy.

Massachusetts law must have changed. Last year, they could ship nothing.

If your mother-in-law likes dessert wines, I strongly recommend the peach wine, for the price, and the blackberry port for an expensive treat. The peach though? Yum. :)

I love blackberries, too, but I think my favorite is "any berry I like and can pick and eat warm off the plant."

The gentleman at the liquor store around the corner from here mentioned that someone has started selling a blueberry vodka, which I might feel the need to try, soon. They're making some kind of a berries and cream drink at the bars around here, with the vodka and cream or milk or something.
