Okay Jews and Kitchen Mavens alike....
I need a hamentaschen recipe.
I need a fabulous yummy hamentaschen recipe. And if you have mohn filling to go along with it, that would be really extra neat.
See, I haven't baked them in years. And
aquariumgirl hasn't ever done it. So we wanna do it. And Purim is only a couple of weeks away.
So if you know how to do it, share share share share please?

Date: 2003-03-03 05:36 am (UTC)I get the filling straight from cans of Solo brand poppy-seed filling. I got the recipe I used last year off of Boston.com but it's no longer there. I'll see if I can find another copy.

Date: 2003-03-03 06:22 am (UTC)I've got Apricot ones that just leapt into my cart at the grocery store yesterday. Apricot are my favorite, but I want to try ones with a lemon filling...that sounds yummy.
Recipe from Mom... looks like she made them lower in by swapping out the sour cream for yogurt. :)
Date: 2003-03-03 10:07 am (UTC)Cream together:
½ cup margarine
1 cup sugar
Beat in:
1 egg
1 tspn vanilla
½ cup plain or vanilla yogurt
Mix in:
1 tspn baking powder
½ tspn baking soda
½ tspn salt
2 2/3 cups plain flour
Refrigerate at least 2 hrs. or overnight
Roll out the dough about ¼” thick
Cut into circles - about 3-4" across
Put a spoonful of filling into the center of each circle
Dampen the edges with water
Fold into 3-cornered *hats*, pinching the edges together well
Place on sprayed baking sheet
Bake at 350 till barely golden - about 8-10 mins
Cool on a rack
(The plain dough makes excellent cookies!)

Date: 2003-03-03 12:36 pm (UTC)There are a bunch of Jewish holidays with the same theme-they tried to kill us, we survived, let's eat. This is another one of those holidays. This time the story involves a bad guy named Hamen. Hence, Hamentaschen.
They're good stuff. One of my favorite Jew Foods.
