I'm not anti-abstinence, but I am not in favor of abstinence only sex education. (Duh!) So when I see articles like this one it makes my heart happy.

ICK!

My officemate (the one who slurps coffee and sometimes sings and is almost always on the phone for non-work things) is clipping his nails at his desk. Ick ick ick. I'm sorry but there are some things you just do at home.

I don't know why, but I have a weird pet peeve about people clipping their nails in front of me. So fine, I understand that some of this is my issue. But you just don't do it at work, unless it's one of those "yeah I broke a nail and need to clip and file it over and done with" sorts of things...he's sitting their clipping all of his fingernails. Ick.

My office is in general, often a gender-stereotype and sexism free place. There's a good mix of men and women for a social services agency, there are women in leadership positions (often a challenge for social services agencies) and so on. In fact, during cultural competency training a few weeks ago, it was asked if women had different issue because the men are mostly gay men.

So here's my observation.

We have two conference rooms, the one that my office opens on to and a smaller, but nicer one further down the hall. Our Board of Directors meets in the smaller room. We also don't have enough chairs to have at the table in both rooms at once. So this morning when the chairs had to be moved from one end of the hallway to the other...the only people they asked were men.

Now, I don't mind being exempted from the chair moving situation. The chairs are heavy and awkward to move. It's the not being asked that I wonder about.

1. Watch this movie...if you're not on a dialup connection. Dialup would probably be too slow. But it's probably one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

2. Take out...it's your friend. I've figured out that if I actually spend money on the way home and get take out, I feel more compelled to eat. That said, I can't afford take out every night, but at least I know if I haven't eaten (a la today) I can make sure that I do.

3. The best part...I got thank you cards from everyone in my monday night group (which ended tonight). It was this incredibly satisfying moment, when I was reminded of why I do this. It was just so sweet.
